You are just 3 ingredients and about 10 minutes away from homemade blueberry chia jam! You will feel like a boss in your kitchen making homemade jam…you’ll never have to rely on store-bought again!
I’m really having a moment with ALL the fresh blueberries lately! Usually I buy more strawberries since I usually prefer to eat those fresh…but blueberries are so versatile for recipes! Anything from smoothie bowls, muffins, jam, eaten fresh, on top of salads….so many options! The ones I’ve bought this year have seemed especially big and I’m excited to share more recipes with you all…stay tuned for this Thursday’s recipe…and more to come too!
Why homemade?
Why should you make homemade when it’s easy to just simply buy store-bought? I have at least three reasons for you:
1. Cheaper.
Especially if you purchase jam made with fruit as the main ingredient, small jars can add up! This makes a good size batch, and you can even use frozen blueberries to make this year-round!
2. Tastier.
Really. The juicy taste of fresh blueberries bursts forefront in this recipe…without being overly sweetened like many store-bought varieties. Which brings me to my next point…
3. Healthier.
The entire recipe only has ONE tablespoon of added sugar!! All the more reason to have a larger serving…you’re actually getting a serving of fruit!
Substitutions
You can use different berries if you desire instead of blueberries! I haven’t tried these versions yet, but I think strawberries or raspberries would work well too. Let me know if you try other fruit!
As mentioned in the recipe notes, you can also add the maple syrup to taste. I used 1 tablespoon, but you can add more if you want a sweeter jam. I haven’t tried this yet, but you may also be able to sub in honey or granulated sugar for the maple syrup.
Honestly, this post in short, simple, and sweet. BUT, I thought this recipe still deserved it’s own post for reference. Stay tuned for Thursday’s recipe….which uses this homemade blueberry chia jam! You DEFINITELY won’t want to miss that recipe. 🙂
- 1 pint (2 cups) blueberries, fresh or frozen
- 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, to taste (I used 1 tbsp)
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds
- Heat berries and maple syrup over medium heat on stove. Blueberries will burst. Then add chia seeds and reduce heat. Yield: approximately ¾ cup.
