Classic Monster Cookies

December 30, 2019 by Audra's Appetite Leave a Comment

These classic monster cookies are bursting with chewy oats, creamy salty peanut butter, and sweet melty chocolate (both chocolate chips AND M&M’s!).

Monster Cookies

Have you ever had monster cookies before?! A friend recently told me she had never had monster cookies before. In fact, she wasn’t even sure what they were. WHAT?! How can this be? Monster cookies are, hands down, my all-time favorite cookie. Monster cookies are made of a base of oats (so you’re practically eating oatmeal ;), peanut butter (literally one of my favorite foods), chocolate chips, and M&M’s!

If you’ve been following the blog for awhile, you might remember these monster cookies, which are my modified healthier version. To be completely honest, I feel like it would have made more sense to post this original recipe first. I cannot even tell you how many people ask for this recipe when I bring them somewhere.

Anyways, this version is the one I had when I first discovered monster cookies waaaayyy back during high school cross country. Chocolate and peanut butter is seriously the best combination. I mean….these peanut butter protein buckeyes, chocolate PB overnight oats, breakfast cookies, the list can go on!!

Ingredients for Monster Cookies

Here’s what you’ll need to make these delicious monster cookies! You’ll notice these are all pantry staples, so hopefully you have these on hand to whip up a batch anytime.

Oats

Baking soda

Salt

Peanut butter

Butter

Sugar

Brown sugar

Eggs

Vanilla extract

Chocolate chips

M&M’s

I’d recommend following the recipe as written for best results! If you’re looking for a healthier monster cookie recipe, I’d recommend checking this post out! That recipe was modified from this initial recipe, and doesn’t use any butter and has much less sugar.

Whenever I bring these cookies somewhere, they always disappear quickly! Not to mention many people always ask for the recipe. I hope you give this one a try! 🙂

Monster cookies: all of my favorite foods combined into one cookie. Chewy oats, creamy salty peanut butter, and sweet melty chocolate. Soft and chewy all the way; never dry or crispy.
Author: Audra's Appetite
Recipe type: Cookie, Dessert
Cuisine: Gluten Free
Serves: 36
Ingredients
  • 1½ cups peanut butter (use a shelf-stable PB such as Jif)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4.5 cups oats*
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ cups chocolate chips**
  • ½ cups m'n'm's**
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Using a stand or hand-held mixer, beat butter, peanut butter and sugars together until creamy. Add in eggs and vanilla extract and mix on medium-high speed until combined. Add in oats, salt, and baking soda and mix on low setting until combined. Stir in chocolate chips and M&M's by hand.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees about 8-11 minutes, depending on size and desired doneness. Enjoy!
Notes
*either quick oats or old fashioned/rolled oats work. I typically use quick oats for this recipe
**I use whatever chips/M&M's I have on hand...I do like using mini though for more chocolate in every bite!
