This BBQ pulled pork flatbread pizza is seriously my all-time favorite pizza! If you follow me on Instagram stories, you probably have seen me post this pizza on Friday nights. Especially in 2020 when we rarely went anywhere on weekends, I made a little tradition of making these semi-homemade pizzas every Friday evening with a fun cocktail! I seriously made SO many new cocktail recipes last year since we weren’t going out. My favorite is a homemade Moscow Mule, but I had so much fun going through the dozens (hundreds?!) of cocktail recipes on A Couple Cooks website.
Anyways, back to the pizza. ? I love how these pizza is semi-homemade (I use store-bought crust!), but the toppings are 100% customizable which makes this recipe so fun to make. Honestly, my all-time favorite pizza toppings are the following:
Favorite Toppings:
-my homemade BBQ sauce (no added sugar!)-recipe here
–Sweet Peas and Saffron pulled pork mixed with my BBQ sauce
-a fun cheese from Trader Joe’s-I love Unexpected Cheddar, sharp cheddar, Toscano, gouda, etc.)
-chopped red onion or these quick pickled red onions
-garlic powder and Italian seasoning (or oregano)
Obviously, you can use shredded or diced chicken in place of the pork, or go a more traditional route and use marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and/or sausage (optional), etc. Have fun making your own creations!
Ingredients and Substitution Ideas
Crust
Flatbread (I buy from Aldi, or try Flat Out Brand) and/or Naan bread! Naan bread is thicker; use both or your preference!
Meat
Pulled pork (I use this recipe from Sweet Peas and Saffron). Other protein options: diced or shredded chicken, pepperoni, chicken or pork sausage, etc.
Sauce
Homemade BBQ sauce or favorite store-bought BBQ sauce (I like Stubb’s Original BBQ sauce if I’m buying store-bought as it’s much lower in sugar than most brands!). Or you could use marinara sauce, hummus, etc.
Cheese
Freshly shredded cheese of choice (mozzarella, sharp yellow or white cheddar, Parmesan, Gouda, Havarti, “unexpected cheddar” from Trader Joe’s, etc.)
Veggies
Diced red onion, optional. Other veggie ideas include: mushrooms, tomatoes or sundried tomatoes, peppers, arugula, etc.
Seasonings
Seasonings of choice (I like garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Sometimes I add red pepper flakes to Chris’s pizza, but that is too spicy for me!).
Serving Suggestions
Honestly, this can easily be a meal-in-one. However, I love serving this flatbread pizza with veggies and dip (my go-to is carrots and hummus) or a side salt. As I previously mentioned, this pizza is also fun to serve with a fun cocktail on weekend nights! This recipe is definitely very kid-friendly too, so it’s a great recipe to get the entire family involved in preparing dinner. Everyone can make their own custom creation, so everyone gets what they want! ?

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a large baking pan with nonstick spray and place naan or flatbread on baking pan. Bake crust in oven (to get the bottom a bit crispy and to ensure the pizza isn’t soggy once you add toppings) for about 5-6 minutes.
- Take crust out of oven and spread your favorite BBQ sauce over crust. Then add pulled pork (I also mix the pulled pork with BBQ sauce before adding to pizza) to pizza.
- Top pulled pork with cheese, red onion, and seasonings.
- Bake pizza at 400 degrees F for about 10 minutes, or until cheese is fully melted and crust is cooked to your preference! Check on it at least once to make sure it doesn’t get too done.
- Enjoy! I love serving this pizza with honey mustard to dip the crust in! Pairs so well with the BBQ pulled pork if you ask me.
