Homemade Honey Roasted Mixed Nut Butter

April 30, 2018 by Audra's Appetite 6 Comments

Homemade honey roasted mixed nut butter! SO addicting. Creamy, sweet, and salty. Simply put: nut butter HEAVEN. You know it’s good when it’s so easy to just eat by the spoonful!

You guys. First nut butter recipe!! 🙂 As mentioned in my “about me,” I am hopelessly addicted to nut butter. For sure one of my favorite foods…along with dark chocolate. Pro tip: try spreading this on a pice of dark chocolate. You can thank me later.

Have you ever tried making homemade nut butter before? While there are so many amazing brands and varieties of store-bought nut butters these days, they don’t hold a candle to homemade. LIFE CHANGING. Seriously, homemade nut butter is so fresh and has such a greater depth of flavor that you just have to experience for yourself. You probably won’t ever want to go back to store-bought after eating homemade! Also, nut butters can definitely be pricey…especially if they are made with nuts other than peanuts. Homemade is definitely cheaper which is just a bonus!

This recipe simply could not be easier to make. You really only need one ingredient: honey roasted mixed nuts. While the mixed nuts taste amazing, I have also tried this using just honey roasted peanuts. Honey roasted peanuts can be easier to find than honey roasted mixed nuts. Adding the tablespoon of neutral-tasting oil is optional, but I recommend adding it as I like my nut butter smooth, creamy, and drippy.

This nut butter is amazing on anything you try it on. I’ve yet to find something that doesn’t go well with it. I can personally vouch it will be the best dip for apples, perfect on toast with sliced bananas, on top of oatmeal, a smoothie bowl topper, mixed with Greek yogurt, your classic PB&J (never too old for that…), on top of dark chocolate as previously mentioned, and simply eaten by the spoonful if all else fails.

You can use either a food processor or a high speed blender to make this. My husband, Chris, bought me a Vitamix for Christmas this past year…which is hands-down one of my favorite gifts EVER. Dream kitchen appliance right there. BUT, using a food processor works well too! It just will likely take a bit longer to process. I hope you already have a food processor at home…if not, it’s worth buying one just for this recipe. And for all of the nut butter recipes to come in the future 🙂

Author: Audra's Appetite
Recipe type: Nut butter
Serves: approximately 1 cup nut butter
Ingredients
  • 2 cups honey roasted mixed nuts (can substitute honey roasted peanuts)
  • 1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
Instructions
  1. Add nuts to high speed blender (such as a Vitamix) or food processor. Process until the nuts have broken down into a paste. You will need to use the tamper (if using a blender) or spatula (if using food processor) to scrape down the sides. Add in the oil and continue to process until a smooth, creamy nut butter forms. This will take a total of approximately 3-5 minutes if using a Vitamix, but may take up to 10-15 minutes if using a food processor. Store in fridge to keep fresh.*
  2. *Homemade nut butter never lasts long in our house, even if I'm the only one eating it! Homemade nut butter should easily keep for up to 1 month if covered/sealed tightly and kept in refrigerator. However, I doubt it will last that long! This usually disappears within a week 🙂

Now how would you say this compares to the DeBrands peanut butter on their sundaes? Because I would be making it right now if you said it was similar! ; ) but Joel does love rainy butter and we have a vitamix so I’ll have to try this! Do you know if Aldis has nuts that would work?

Well it doesn’t have the crunch like that nut butter…but honestly it’s sweeter! You could always try adding in rice krispies or chopped nuts at the end to make it more similar. And YES! They have honey roasted cashews at Aldi at least 🙂 Honey roasted peanuts are always another good option and pretty easy to find at major grocery stores.

I do not like eating plain apples and buy the store bought caramel dip which is probably not the healthiest especially with my ratio of caramel to apple. So i will definitely start using this instead. And I like that you can use honey roasted peanuts as those are not expensive. I know my boys would love this also and probably won’t want to go back to store bought peanut butter. What food processor/mixer do you recommend?

Hi, great question. Maybe eventually I will have a product page with links to all my favorite kitchen appliances/utensils! Here are links to the exact models of food processors/blenders I own. They will all work; the Vitamix will take the shortest amount of time but is quite a larger investment than the Ninja set for only $50. I’ve had the Ninja for going on 4-5 years now and it’s still going strong! Hope you enjoy. The peanut butter is definitely a healthier option over the store bought caramel dip…filled with protein and heart-healthy fats…and I daresay tastes even better too!
